Boys should be boys, at least this is what a group of teachers behind a series of gender education programs to boost the masculinity of boys in China believes.
The programs aim to tackle what has been called China’s “boy crisis” of weak, socially inept, underachieving boys as concern mounts over a crisis of confidence among male pupils.
On Tuesday morning, an article about this school programs became a hot topic on Sina Weibo. Although some internet users believed that boys-only programs are just another way for schools to make money out of a non-existent “boy crisis”, many netizens seem to agree that the lack of manly traits in boys justifies measures to “toughen up” the kids in China.
